MicroTasking
If hourly pay is not your thing, microtasking is another way you can earn money from the comfort of your own home, any time of day or night.
Microtasks are quite simple, quick odd jobs that you can do and get paid. Some take 2-3 minutes and may pay fifty cents or so. Others take a couple of hours and pay as much as $50.
These microtasks are simply things that human beings can do much more effectively than computers. So companies pay for actual humans to do the tasks.
That’s where you come in.
Examples of microtasks you can do to earn money include transcribing audio recordings, researching data, and even things as simple as identifying objects.
Rather than hiring a large temporary workforce or leaving tasks like these incomplete, lots of companies outsource the work to a few large microtasking sites.
In this section, you’ll find three such places where you can sign up to complete microtasks and earn fast money.
Method #11: MTurk (Amazon Mechanical Turk)
Amazon Mechanical Turk (MTurk) is a marketplace for work that requires human intelligence.
Mturk, as many people call it, is a service that gives businesses access to a diverse, on-demand workforce.
Workers can select from thousands of tasks to complete whenever it’s convenient for them to do so. Mturk calls these tasks HITS, which is short for Human Intelligence Task.
A HIT is basically a question that needs an answer. It represents a single, task that a worker can complete such as submitting an answer. They can then collect a reward for completing the task.
Below are a couple of screenshots from Mturk that I took as I was writing this guide.
The first one shows some examples of some of the higher paying tasks on Mturk, and the second screenshot shows some lower priced hits.
As you can see from the two screenshots, the pay for HITS ranges greatly, with opportunities to earn as much as $58 and as little as a few dollars and less (just pennies in some cases) for faster tasks.
MTurk is a great choice for some quick cash, and thousands of people perform HITS daily. It’s a stable platform that has been operating for more than a decade now, so it’s reputable and reliable.
You can sign up here. It takes about 48 hours to get approved. During that time, they verify your social security number (for tax purposes).
Once verified, you start out in a probation period where you need to complete at least 1 HIT for 10 days.
Method #12: Appen
Appen is a global leader in the development of high-quality, human-annotated datasets for machine learning and artificial intelligence.
Or to put it more simply, they hire real humans to rate and evaluate things such as search results, social media material, and more.
Applicants must be self-motivated and internet savvy. The work is flexible, part-time, and home-based work that requires a computer and/or mobile device.
Some of the work includes what they call “micro tasks” which are simple tasks that can be completed in about an hour from the comfort of your own home. There are also projects that take up to 20 hours a week.
You do need to qualify for their projects and the qualification processes are not paid, but it does not typically take longer. But if you want to qualify you’ll need to study the guidelines for an hour or so then take a test for each selected project.
If you pass, you can then start work on the project. If you do not pass, then they move you onto the next qualification.

Method #13: ClickWorker
ClickWorker is another site where you can get paid to complete simple tasks. It is similar to Mturk and Appen, and like the other two platforms, you can sign up as a Clickworker free of charge.
Clickworker is always looking for Internet users worldwide, Their micro-tasks include proofreading written texts, participating in surveys, and things such as searching for data.
Again, you are not paid by the hour, you are paid for each completed task you perform. You work independently based on your own schedule, so it is flexible. You decide when and how much you want to work – on a freelance basis.
All you need is a computer and/or mobile device with an Internet connection and there’s no experience or qualifications necessary.
You receive payment once you’ve earned $10 and your balance never expires. They pay by PayPal so you need to be in a country where you can get a PayPal account.

Mystery Shopping
Did you know that there are companies that will pay you to shop? It’s true!
You may have heard of this in the past and even dismissed it as a scam. And unfortunately, there are lots of scams in the industry. Those are the companies that try to get you to pay a fee upfront. The real mystery shopping opportunities are actually 100% free.
And they are legit! You can earn anywhere from $5-$25 per mystery shop, plus reimbursement for any purchases required.
Some mystery shoppers earn thousands of dollars a month, though a good expectation is somewhere around $400-$500 a month. But hey, you’re shopping, and for many people, that’s a fun way to earn part-time cash!
Here’s how it works:
You sign up at a mystery shopping company (see the recommended companies in this section) and they pay you to act as a regular customer at stores in your area and to provide feedback on your shopping experience.
You may be asked to visit a local grocery store, a fast-food restaurant, a liquor store, etc. Other tasks I’ve seen include shopping for a car (including a test drive!) or visiting your local YMCA as a prospective customer.
In exchange for your feedback, (store cleanliness, employee helpfulness, etc.) you are paid a fee. In most cases you’ll be asked to make a purchase, then you’ll be reimbursed up to a set dollar amount.
Once you sign up and are approved you simply log into a website and choose jobs that interest you. You are provided with all the details on exactly what is expected with each job. After completion, you then log back in and enter your feedback into their website.

If mystery shopping interests you, visit those companies listed above and apply. It usually takes a few days for your application to be accepted, then you can start shopping and earning!
As far as getting paid, some companies pay by direct deposit and others mail you checks.
Again, legitimate mystery shopping companies always need shoppers, so they never ask for you to pay to see a list of their jobs. So never pay to be a part of a mystery shopping company or to see their jobs.
